“Tag Me Later: Avoiding Social Media Slip-Ups”

Tech Tips, Tricks & Cybersecurity Advice – No Jargon, Just Help

👋 Hello Again, Digital Diplomat!

Social media can connect, entertain, and inform — but it can also overshare, overwhelm, and overexpose.
This week, we’re keeping it tight, tidy, and private as we take on: social media safety.

🧯 Tech Emergency Prep Kit: Social Media Privacy Settings Check 🔍

Even if your profiles “feel” private, chances are you’re leaking more than you think. Here’s a 5-minute tune-up:

🔒 Review who can see your posts.
On Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, etc., check privacy settings. Limit your audience to friends/followers where possible.

📸 Hide your location.
Turn off auto-location tagging in your camera app and social media posts.
Burglars don’t need to know you’re in Maui this week.

🛑 Don’t link every app to your Facebook account.
Go to settings > apps and remove old connected services. Those quiz apps from 2015? Cut 'em loose.

🎣 Avoid posting personal info that can be used for password resets.
No need to share your pet’s name, high school, or mom’s maiden name publicly. That’s hacker gold.

💡 Quick Tech Trick

Use “Close Friends” or “Private Story” for sensitive posts.
Instagram and Snapchat let you control who sees what.
Use these tools when sharing things like event invites, family photos, or your new tattoo you haven’t told Grandma about yet.

🧠 Cyber Tip of the Week

Google yourself once a quarter.
Search your full name + city to see what’s publicly available about you.
Clean up anything outdated, cringey, or insecure. Your digital footprint doesn’t have to be a free-for-all.

Keep your posts curated, your privacy tight,
Your Grandson Techie
