“Lost? There’s an App for That”

Tech Tips, Tricks & Cybersecurity Advice – No Jargon, Just Help

👋 Hey There, Safety Star

In a digital world, location sharing can feel creepy — but in the right moment, it can save lives.
This week, we're talking emergency-ready location tools and how to share your whereabouts without oversharing.

🧯 Tech Emergency Prep Kit: Share Location the Smart Way 📍

🌎 Use the What3words app
This app breaks the globe into 3m x 3m squares and assigns each a unique 3-word address — like “apple.couch.moon.”
✅ Great for meeting someone in a crowd
✅ Perfect if you're stranded or need help and can’t describe your location
✅ Works without a street address

📱 Set up location sharing with trusted contacts
On iPhone: Find My → Share Location
On Android: Google Maps → Location Sharing
Limit it to close friends or family. Disable when not needed.

🆘 Use Emergency SOS on your phone
This auto-alerts emergency contacts with your live location.

✅ iPhone: Settings → Emergency SOS
✅ Android: Settings → Safety & emergency → Emergency SOS

💡 Quick Tech Trick

Drop a location pin in a text message
Open your Maps app → Hold your finger on your current spot → Share → Send via text.
Easy to do in areas with poor address data or confusing intersections.

🧠 Cyber Tip of the Week

Don’t share location in your social media photos
Turn off geotagging in your camera settings. Posting from vacation? Wait until you’re back.
Burglars scroll, too.

Keep your signal strong and your location private (except when it counts),
